The Last Train Out of Titan City.

written by VELVET ISHTAR.

The infection had spread to every corner of the city. Fires burned across roof tops, spreading from district to district, cutting through every check point, every gate.

Most people had already left the city, taking the infection with them to wherever they had gone.

A virtuous few stayed behind, deciding to lose their minds together, drinking and smoking and weeping and laughing themselves headless.

Underneath The Institute, a few inmates began to break free. These were special beings, brought down for testing long ago, during the start of the infection that ravaged the city. They were immune, and so rounded up by the Secret Police for the greater good of medical experimentation, in the hopes of developing a cure. It could have been just a few hours, maybe a few years. None of them can comprehend the passage of time anymore, they see too much and process too fast. Some went mad and killed themselves in their cells. Some died during testing. A few lived long enough for the collapse to spread through The Institute’s campus, long enough to watch their handlers and guards and the scientists responsible for their condition trickle away slowly, until no one was left to hit the button to release them.

One of them managed to develop a way to walk through walls. Watch now as she runs through reinforced concrete, as she leaps across elevator shafts and floats through the stories back up to the surface.

The last train out of Titan City is pulling out of the station, and she is on the other side of this wretched mess of dead fools and mad old men. She remembers nothing but an emotion, an intense and burning passion. For what, she does not know.

She will be back in Titan City one day, years from now. After all, this is the place where she was brought back to life, the place where she discovered the true nature of love and pain. She too is a fool. A fool who has fallen in love with the infection, with those who could not walk out the way she has, with the people who spent every day running tests on her mind, body, and soul, those who experimented on her because they knew there was no other way to ensure the survival of their people. She understood this, and felt no anger.

One day, when it doesn’t matter who is what or when is where, she will be back in Titan City. Once there is heaven on this realm, she will be back. But for now, this is the world, and she is alive, and there are troubles.

She senses the train. It is leaving the station, and she is miles away.

Watch now, as she performs the impossible. Watch as she bends reality itself. She will fold the city like origami, and bring the train to where she stands.

THE END
